Born December 1960 in St. Thomas, Ontario, Jackie Matej is one of nine children, six girls and three boys. After working as a food service supervisor for several hospitals in the Hamilton area, she decided to change her career direction and opened a home daycare in 1994. In 2011 she received her Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Mohawk College and has continued to enjoy doing daycare ever since. She was inspired to write this story after realizing how rare Turner Syndrome really is and how lucky she was to have achieved her dreams of getting married to her best friend and having a child (through the help of In Vitro Fertilization). It was a difficult, eye-opening journey, but something she would not change for the world. Turner Syndrome is still virtually unknown, even though it affects 1 in 2500 females. Jackie hopes that her book will shed light on this condition and also help those who have been diagnosed with it.
